Op. 22 No. 2 is a solo by Alessandro Sciarroni created for Marta Ciappina, a dancer with whom the choreographer has been collaborating for several years. Commissioned by the Festival Bolzano Danza, the work is inspired by The Swan of Tuonela, a symphonic poem by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius based on the epic poem Kalevala from Finnish mythology.

“Alessandro depicts a female figure dressed in sharp feathers and endowed with filed nails. Yet, hidden by the sparkle of a supposed vigour, her eyes seem shrunk to a thin slit, her speech stumbles in front of the death, her skin quivers. Isn’t that me? A former child who ridiculed life by defying events with purple arrows. The writer approaches, understands and has no fear. Happiness is caught. Thank you.
Marta Ciappina

The work Op. 22 No. 2 was created from an idea by Emanuele Masi, as a part of “Swans never die” network – a project by Lavanderia a Vapore – Centro di Residenza per la Danza (Piemonte dal Vivo – Circuito Multidisciplinare dello Spettacolo, Coorpi, Didee Arti e Comunicazione, Mosaico Danza,
Zerogrammi); Operaestate Festival Veneto and Centro per la Scena Contemporanea CSC Bassano del Grappa; Triennale Milano Teatro; Fondazione Teatro Grande di Brescia; Festival Bolzano Danza – Fondazione Haydn; Gender Bender Festival; “Memory in Motion. Re-Membering Dance History (Mnemedance)” – Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia; DAMS – Università degli Studi di Torino. Associazione Culturale Corpoceleste

The association Corpoceleste was founded in 2008 from Alessandro Sciarroni and Chiara Bersani’s vision to carry forward their respective authorial identities, acquired during their extended training period. Corpoceleste made its debut with Your Girl, the first choreographic work by Alessandro Sciarroni, created in collaboration with Chiara Bersani. The performance immediately gained attention on the European contemporary dance scene. Thanks to this successful first experience, Corpoceleste defined the contours of its structural identity and has preserved them to this day, thereby affirming the association’s uniqueness. It is not a company or a collective, but a shared space where artists exchangea network of relationships and collaborations built over the years. In 2019 Francesca Grilli also joins the nucleus of associated artists and from 2021 Corpoceleste supports and follows the work of MINE Collective (Francesco Saverio Cavaliere, Siro Guglielmi, Fabio Novembrini, Roberta Racis, Silvia Sisto) and Gianmaria Borzillo. Corpoceleste’s artists, while creating their works independently, support each other’s artistic research. This way, creation is a collective process in which each person involved makes their skills available. The ideas and projects circulate freely. This makes Corpoceleste a creative hub for experimenting with new artistic languages.

Alessandro Sciarroni

An Italian artist active in the field of performing arts, with a background in visual arts and theatrical research. His works originate from a conceptual approach rooted in Duchampian tradition, making use of theatrical frameworks, and are hosted in festivals, museums, and unconventional spaces across Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. In his creations, he involves artists from diverse disciplines, adopting techniques from dance, circus, or sport. His works seek to reveal, through the repetition of a practice pushed to the limits of physical endurance, the obsessions, fears, and fragility of the performative act — in search of an empathetic relationship between audience and performers. In 2019, he was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Dance at La Biennale di Venezia.
